In a book by N. A. Koryagina and E.V. Mihaylova “Social Psychology: Theory and Practice” (Moscow, 2014) the socio-psychological study is defined as “the type of scientific research aimed at establishing in the behavior and activities of people the psychological patterns due to the fact the inclusion in social (large and small) groups, as well as the psychological characteristics of these groups themselves” (p. 124). Socio-psychological research can be carried out using a variety of methods: surveys, observations, document analysis, testing, etc.; the choice of research method depends on purpose and objectives of the study.
Over the years, the Educational, Scientific and Production Laboratory «Mykolaiv Center for Sociological Research» of the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University has gained considerable experience in conducting socio-psychological research using a variety of methods, among which the most frequently used socio-psychological testing and sociometric diagnostics. In particular, the center’s staff conducts research on interpersonal perceptions in collectives (educational, labor) using the following methods:
• Technique of studying the perception of the individual group.
• Technique for studying regulatory preferences in a group.
• Leary’s technique in the study of personality representations about oneself and others.
• Technique for studying interpersonal feedback.
• Technique of study of interpersonal perception in a conflict situation.
• Technique of diagnosing the person’s tendency to conflict behavior.
