In the book “Sociology: Dictionary of Terms and Concepts” (Kyiv, 2006) specific sociological research is defined as “a system of logically consistent methodological, methodological and organizational and technical procedures aimed at obtaining reliable data about the phenomenon under study and the process for their subsequent use in managerial practice” (pp. 142-143). Specific sociological research can be carried out using a variety of methods: surveys, observations, document analysis, etc.; the choice of research method depends on purpose and objectives of the study.
Over the years, the Educational, Scientific and Production Laboratory «Mykolaiv Center for Sociological Research» of the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University has gained considerable experience in conducting concrete sociological research using a variety of methods, among which the most frequently used questionnaire interviews, in-depth interviews and focus group interviews. Annually the сenter conducts a survey of public opinion of the inhabitants of the city of Mykolaiv in relation to the actual socio-political and socio-cultural issues of the functioning of the city and the country. The ESPL “Mykolaiv Center for Sociological Research” of the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University offers enterprises, organizations, and other interested persons from the city of Mykolaiv and other cities of Ukraine services for conducting sociological research on a contracting basis.
